Intelligence testing: what is intelligence, a multifaceted concept that people have been trying to define for centuries. Involves the ability to reason, plan, problem solve, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly, learn from experience, etc: not merely book learning or test taking (i. e. narrow academic skills) Reflects deeper capability for comprehending our surroundings quickly catching on, making sense of things, figuring out what to do. Binet was interested in identifying children who would need academic support. Series of increasingly difficult tasks: from everyday problems involving basic reasoning to more complex problems involving intense problem solving.
