Moral is what you feel good after, immoral is what you feel bad after immoral. Lecture 9: moral development: way of thinking morally. Overview: three approaches to moral development: Role of the moral emotions (shame, guilt, pride) Role of moral reasoning (thinking about right and wrong ) Superego is developed at end of phallic stage. Phallic stage is age 4 or 5 (have to identify with your same sex parent) Superego: wants to punish you if you do bad things. Conscience: list of things good people shouldn"t do (shouldn"t lie, hit, cheat, etc: things we grow up knowing we shouldn"t do, guilt. Conscience will punish us with this feeling of guilt if we don"t uphold to these rules. Meant to teach us to do good things. Ego ideal: list of things good boys and good girls should do (obey their parents, etc: try to meet this ideal, if you fail to meet this ideals you are punished with the emotion:
