A 2x2 parenting style method: combines emotional tone with control. Warmth: child"s needs before own needs, enthusiastic about everything child does, respond sensitively to child"s emotions (empathetic, can be warm without giving everything they want, predictor of success. Higher iq: longitudinal evidence on maternal warmth as a protective factor. Can prevent against delinquency by warmness of mother despite. Hostile environment: reject children in words and actions, saying i don"t want or love you, children are at increased risk for mental health and suicide. Control is important and when used correctly and results in more optimally developing children compared to laissez faire: kurfek and fine.
