PSYCH 2AA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: 6 Years, Little Albert Experiment, Longitudinal Study
Document Summary
Case studies study of one person you watch very intensely over some period of time. Correlational research showing 2 variables have some sort of relationship i. e. smarter child has more friends variables = intelligence and number of friends standard way to determine is by doing survey studies. Caveat: causation i. e. the more extraverted, the more friends a kid has, but you don"t know that extraversion. Causes you to have more friends therefore, never make a causative statement. Manipulate variable to see how it affects the subject. Random assignment causation; equalizes the playing field. Quasi expts (in lab or firled) random assignment not possible on at least one variable. Researcher manipulates independent variables in a natural setting so that the results are more likely to be representative of behaviour in real-world settings. Allow investigators to draw strong conclusions about cause and effect because manipulation of independent variable was in natural setting.
