10-25% concordance rate among 1st degree relatives, 1-3% in controls. Individuals with pd tend to hyperventilate much more than general population. Those same neurotransmitters tend to be high with individuals who face stress may not have anything to do with pd, just with stress: mao in blood is high. Mao = enzyme that breaks down mono-amine transmitters including the catecholamines. 70% individuals with pd have panic attacks when you inject na lactate into their blood stream - (cid:862)positi(cid:448)e i(cid:374)fusers(cid:863) We think that this dramatically increases norepinephrine: pet data from positive infusers: Higher levels of activity in the non-dominant hippocampus. For most right handed individuals, the non-dominant hippocampus is the right side.
