No longer considered an anxiety disorder even though it has an anxious symptom. Obsessive compulsive disorder and related disorders in dsm-5. Excoriation disorder - compulsion to pick at one"s skin. Ocd and related due to another medical condition. Obsession: persistent, intrusive thoughts, urges or images that cause anxiety or distress in most individuals, and that the individual tries to ignore, suppress or neutralize. O/c take more than 1 hour/day, or cause clinically signi cant impairment or distress (subjective) Not due to a substance, or another medical condition (brain injury) Disturbance not better explained by symptoms of another mental disorder; ex. Autism shows a lot of organizing, ordering, counting and repeating, could be considered autistic. Example: howard hughes - terri ed of contamination; had instructions for everything regarding his life, wouldn"t leave his apartment due to his fear of germs in the las vegas strip. 1% annual, 1. 5% lifetime prevalence in u. s.
