Lecture 3 neurodevelopment disorders autism spectrum. Restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour: stereotyped, repetitive movements, speech, etc, lining up toys, echolalia. Symptoms must be present in early developmental period: ca(cid:374)"t sho(cid:449) up (cid:449)he(cid:374) you"re (cid:1005)(cid:1004) Symptoms not better explained by intellectual disability, or global developmental delay. Specifications: with or without intellectual impairment, with or without language impairment, associated with medical, genetic, environmental condition, associated with another mental, behavioural disorder, with catatonia. Prone to anxiety, depression: especially in adolescents and adulthood. * -- us 8-year olds increased prevalence. 4-5 times as common in boys than girls. Highest male/female ratio in normal range of cognitive function. Lowest male/female ratio in extreme low range of cognition function. 70% comorbid for one or more other disorders; Anxiety or phobic disorder 42: social anxiety disorder 29% General intellect: 70%+ have intellectual disability, language, abstract reasoning, good at the following, visuo-spatial processing, attention to detail, rote memory. Savant abilities: mathematics, especially rapid calculation, music, calendar calculations.
