Incidence and prevalence: adhd: dsm-iv (2000): 300-700/10,000, joel nigg (2006): 700/10,000, cdc (2008): 500/10,000, cdc (2009): 810/10,000, dsm-5 (2013): 500/10,000 (children); 250/10,000 (adults) Lifetime prevalence of adhd in youth 4-17 in us: 2011-2013, 13. 3% of boys and 5. 6% of girls aged 4-17 had ever been diagnosed with. Among private insurance, the prevalence of diagnosed adhd was 8. 6% Adhd comorbidity: conduct/oppositional defiant disorder, 70% of adhd patients, mood disorder, 50% of lithium responsive bipolar patients, tourette"s disorder, 40% of male tourette"s patients, over-represented in many disorders, autism, apd, ocd. Etiology psychological processes: attention, selective attention, attentional orienting in space, arousal and vigilance, response inhibition, executive functions, response inhibition, working memory. Eeg/erp (evoked response potential) results: 20% have abnormal eeg (15% generally, less right > left asymmetry in size of prefrontal cortex (right smaller, more cortical slow wave actuvuty (under-arousal, weak erp to stimuli (poor alerting)
