It"s about tricking you, not others; otherwise defeats the purpose. Secondary gain of a symptom is the attention that others give you cuz you have symptoms: symptoms cant serve many functions. Punishment for unacceptable impulse: superego makes us feel guilt/shame. Removal from anxiety-producing situation: test-paralysis situation.
