Excessive anxiety more days than not for 6 months or more, about several events or activities (e. g. , work, school performance) Person finds it difficult to control the worry. Accompanied by at least 3 of the following 6 symptoms, more days than not for last 6 months: Difficult falling or staying asleep, or restless sleep. Symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning . Symptoms not due to the physiological effects of a substance (e. g. a drug of abuse, a medication) or to another medical condition . Symptoms not better explain by another mental disorder. Usually starts in 20s or 30s, with high proportion in childhood or adolescence. Most common anxiety disorder among young, old. About 65% of those with disorder are female.
