Displacement: cathexis gets displaced to mom-like object, reduces cathexis to mom and channels it to another female. Sublimation: type of displacement, displacement to an activity that society values, sublimated sexuality, sublimated aggression. Id impulse gets repulsed due to it being dangerous: projection of the impulse, example: i hate dad projects to dad hates me . Rationalization: making up reasons for behaviour that has different motivation, lie to the id, self-deception, example, i love mom , rationalized: mom needs my constant attention. It"s only what any good son would do. Reaction formation: conscious opposite feeling that motivates your behaviour, example, original impulse: i hate dad , reaction to id impulse: i love dad . Identify with original id: example: i hate dad but since he is bigger and stronger i identify with him, example 2: i love mom identification: i am mom, and i love myself .
