Personality theories are bigger ( more global and general); other psychs are only trying to account for a limited range of human behaviour. It has been of interest for a long time, around 3,000 years; longest history of any area of psych, experimental only 100 to put in perspective. In personality there are dozens of theories; no other area in any other science that has as many competing theories. Theories in personality psych don"t guide research as much, much for relevant of clinical psych; we ask questions based on what the theory highlights as impt, diff questions for diff theory. Theories in personality psych were developed in a clinical practice who were working with people who have problems and making these theories as answers to what is going on with their patient; backwards than most theories in psychology. Majority of personality psychologists were therapists/ clinicians .
