Individuals who have hysteria suffer from premature unwanted sexual harm, emerges into unconsciousness and begins the symptoms - freuds conclusion to hysteria. Seduction theory of hysteria abandoned: memories of childhood sexual abuse aren"t memories they"re fantasies made up in the mind, it"s a wish/desire, you need to dig beneath that to find source. Freud changes his theory every year the whole way along, modifies it: unconscious mind is active participant in every day choices, take pre existing concepts and make coherent picture of human psychology. In order to understand how this works we have to see energy being transferred from one to another: challenge for freud was explaining how all motivation falls under either sexuality or aggression (or both) Freud argues there are no other instincts other than the two. Most behaviours are a combination of both aggressive and sexual instincts. Limited and constricted in terms of gaining gratification.
