Symptomatic treatment of fever and itching in a healthy child. Newborn babies if the mother develops varicella or herpes zoster in the 7 days before or after birth. Should be given in severe chickenpox or for clinical infection in an immunocompromised child or newborn infant. Antibiotics are also given concurrently to cover secondary skin infection.
