Instinctoid(as opposed to instinctive) motivation: human nature is driven by things we want; things we need. We need a life where we understand what the risks are; where we understand what things are likely to happen. Also need to know what order things will happen. We always identify to the group which we belong in: love. Being loved and loving others are equally important. To deny someone to be loving, caring, and nurturing towards someone else is to deprive someone of a need. Giving and receiving love: failure to consistently meet needs in this area is the greatest source of human unhappiness(ex. Misery, anxiety, depression: esteem needs, most people do not fully achieve these needs, respect from others; others need to value and recognize my worth as an individual, also need to respect and value ourselves(self-esteem) We need to accept ourselves, which is often harder than getting esteem from others.
