If we are too developed in a direction that is consistent with our inner potential, we must receive from others unconditional positive regard. We must receive love no matter what, for who we are. If this happens, then development will happen as it should. If we behave in certain ways, that love and respect and affection will be others. These conditions are outside of us, they are imposed by others. Externally imposed standards that we must meet. Instead of forming the superego, we form the ideal self. Ideal self is not ideal it is what other people think is ideal for us. Once this is formed, we stop listening to the organism valuing.
