Child gains primary sexual/aggressive grat cation through the mouth -- breastfeeding. You discover that taking a crap is pleasurable. Child begins the satisfaction of the development of language and telling people what they want. Child makes his rst non-narcissicist cathexes of sexual libido --> towards mom: mom is the primary caretaker and the only provider of pleasure to the boy at this point. It could be a nanny, female sibling etc primary caregiver/ pleasure giver. If she had been uncaring, less sexual libido would be transferred. Problem is: there is someone else who is taking away time with mom, someone who is a rival. Typically that rival is dad, but it could be a sibling (new baby jealousy) Boy now wants to cathex aggressive libido towards dad (wants to get rid of dad) The amount of aggressive libido directed at dad depends on how much of a rival he is. What if he cuts off my penis.
