PSYCH 2C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Sensory Overload, Ahold, Tow Truck
Document Summary
Prosocial behaviour, anything that has a positive impact on another person, such as driving someone to. Evolutionary account: dawkins research suggests that we are born selfish individuals and so through this, we want to see ourselves replicated in other vessels, human beings so as to prolong our own lives, and help ourselves. Evolved psychological mechanism, some type of behaviour or response to some type of stimulus that causes everybody to behave in the same way. In an everyday situation we are more likely to help females, than we are males, and there is a significant difference because it is thought that females are more helpless than males are. Life or death situations we are still more likely to help females than males but the difference now isn"t as significant as it would be in everyday situations, as seen in the slide.
