Dissonance theory is about the relationship between attitudes and behaviours. We can use behaviour to predict or change attitudes. A ood will come and alines will come to save. God will wipe out humanity except for a few faithful people who will be picked up by alines. What does the cult do: quilt cult and feel like an idiot, or stay with the cult and nd a way to feel good about it. Dissonance is caused as the cult feels like something s very wrong, will want to feel better about situation ( nd a reason to why they are not an idiot) What did they choose: message from god, god said that humanity was worth saving because go the people in this cult. Cognitions: i am a smart, reasonable person, aliens never came . i am an idiot. Attitudes and behaviours do not match up (psychological inconsistency)
