Document Summary

What is prosocial behavior - doing something nice. What is altruism - helping without bene t to one"s self. Richard dawkins was pessimistic about pro-social, because he believed we are born sel sh. According to him our genes cause us to behave in certain ways, and those sel sh genes help us survive. How does prosocial behavior evolve if it might harm you? idea is that you have to be helping yourself at the same time. Kin selection: when we are going to help someone, it will be our relatives. By helping them we help our own genes. Reciprocation of prosocial behaviors: if i help someone else, they have to help me back later. Inclusive tness: when we help someone else we are helping their genes. Since they have similar genes, if they are doing well, we are also doing well. Relatedness/kinship: the more related they are (ie twin) the more you will help.
