Document Summary

Lecture 5 learning, biology, and the brain. After becoming sick due to a food item, the item itself becomes a warning stimulus for sickness: aversion you no longer desire that food because you tried it and had a bad experience. Conditioning explanations for taste aversion: laws of classical conditioning, law of effect if you have a pleasant experience you are more lily to repeat it and vice versa. Problems with classical conditioning (cc) explanations of taste aversion: one trial acquisition (ota) of taste aversion, delayed conditioning of taste aversion, selectivity in taste aversion learning. All individuals of a species vary behaviourally and physiologically you cant understand all species using one principle: you can use that principle to apply research questions/hypothesis but you have to be aware of individual differences. Some of this variation is genetic (heritable), so offspring will tend to resemble their parents more than the offspring resemble other unrelated individuals.
