Document Summary

Center of what we know about things. The set of entities or examples described by the concept (ie. all of the dogs) Mind map (ie. dogs are mammals, tails, four legged, etc) Or predict its future actions/mechanisms: reasoning i know it"s a dog, so therefore it"s a mammal, communication align our categories so we can communicate less and have common similar categories with others about dog for ex. The classical view: concepts have defining features or attributes. But hard to come up with a good definition. Concepts and categories are not the same thing as words! For example, philthrum is the name of dibbet under nose. Not that we can"t sort this way there are whole research programs based on taxonomy. We have a concept of furniture, even without a perfect def. We have a concept of what a dog or bird is without having to undertake. We know what a bachelor is, even without an elaborate definition.
