Looking at the power spectra of sounds: benefits and disadvantages. Lecture 5: power spectra looks similar, trailing up as we go high, but lower as we go deeper into overtones, makes it look like these two instruments play very similar sounds. Hard to appreciate the real-life difference of how these instruments would sound the temporal part of sound is very important (this is what makes instruments distinct in sound from others: failed much in auditory digital perception. Potential for sound growth in the real world: Many devices in hospital make sounds because staff have to vary a lot of medical information about patients. Problem: annoying when patients are trying to recover after a stressful situation, hard for staff to work when sounds are all over the place. Great potential to improve emergency centre medical alarms. Small nuances can have a huge impact on our experience with listening to music.
