Genetics of learning & memory. Massed vs. spaced training or cramming vs. repeated studying. Flies received training sessions each consisting of 1 odor temporally paired w/ shock & 1 odor paired w/ no shock. The spaced group received 10 sessions separated by 15 min breaks. Effects of midterm on final exam score. Final short answer test a week later. Ethical implications: make sure you understand the distinction among evolution, innate behaviour, & learning. Diff areas have diff plant species. Diff flowers bloom at diff time. In other words, there is variation among flower species in time & space. Conclusion: an inexperienced bee can"t know which flower is the best in its area. Learning as an adaptive trait. Kittiwakes (sea gulls): recognize own nest spot but neither eggs nor chicks. They heard a buzzer each time they licked = noisy tasty water . 1/3 of rats experienced shock to foot while drinking.
