January 26th, 2017: masculinity, cue of good genes, the masculinity usually serves as a handicap- and so women prefer mates with a handicap because it means they have survived to a certain point. Symmetry: basic observable trait that establishes that you have good genes. Thornhill- medical records- those who are more symmetrical and therefore more masculine had viewer documented hospital histories over a period of time. Little et al- facial attractiveness: very little variation in differences in symmetry. Top 15 most symmetrical and least symmetrical were used to make composition. Pictures were then shown for rating of masculinity. Macaque- symmetrical face was viewed as more sex typical of masculine. Same result for whites and african american. Symmetry and masculinity are correlated and women look for this. Women prefer long term mates that symbol through their physique that they have good genes and are willing to protect off springs etc. Females are more likely to trade off looks.
