Two components: primary where we hold information for immediate use (1 minute), then its gone. See little decline into (cid:890)0"s and (cid:891)0"s: working memory active processing of information. About using attention to maintain or suppress information while you make computations on it. Hold information in mind and do cognitive operations on it. Relation with gf same overarching ability. Almost perfectly correlated performance and decrease similarly with age. Park et al (2002) do pm and wm chance with age: pm: corsi block tapping task scored based on how many you can get correct. Reading span: shown several sentences in series (number of sentences increases over time) while holding in mind the last word of each sentence. Computation span: solve problems as you remember the last number in each formula: found very little difference across age groups in primary memory tests, but significant declines in working memory tasks.
