Socially valued sorts of activities: moral contentment: the feeling that we have done right by those around us. The good life is a life of virtue: moral virtue: not being controlled by our lust and needs, not build into us; it is not a natural human tendency. It is by practicing virtuous acts that we become virtuous enjoy these acts and gives us pleasure. Subordinating our carnal pleasure to something healthy which has become a habit through practice. Intellectual virtue: understanding how the world works, an awareness of how the world is. This something that has to be taught by someone who is wiser than us. It is a matter of absorbing information from someone. The oldest, continuously practiced eastern tradition: almost 9000 years old, heartland is india, we see the intermitting of psychology, philosophy and religion. So in hindu tradition we are reborn, not necessarily as a human being, and once again start our search for self understanding.
