East: transcendence possible in life - we can transcend the nasty nature of the world in this life (especially in buddhist ideology) Philosophy & religion separate in west, intertwined in the east - this is a large reason why many ideas on posiive psychology comes from the east. Hedonia (our present emoional state of happiness, our internal feelings in the moment) versus. Eudaimonia (we should be looking at life saisfacion, bringing meaning to life, rather than focusing on being happy) present in both.
