Change relationship to self and external environment through memory process. People just leave to go somewhere and later on completely forget how they got there/where they are. Sometimes relate lack of memory to popular issues (eg. describe story of travel exactly as something that happened in news to celebrity, without knowing it wasn"t their story) Some patients admit to making up their story. Usually end abruptly, and later remember exactly what happened (kind of like having a blackout night and later recalling what happened: occurs in adulthood, 1. 8-7. 3, distinct state is called amok . Dissociative identity disorder: headaches represent control by alter, alters in charge of certain aspect of life (eg sexual, sporty, aggression, etc, identity asking for help is host. Exptreme pleasure in everything (some associate it with sexual orgasm) Less severe mania; does not impair social/work function: unipolar depression=either severely depressed or severely manic, bipolar depression=depressed and energized.
