Rotation children readily formed new relationships, but their social ties showed little stability. Growth children added new relationships and kept the existing ones. Decline friendships broke up and were not replaced. Static children maintained a stable pool of friendships and added no new ones. Rotation playful teasers; always up on the latest interesting gossip,; aggressive, bossy, and untrustworthy. Growth neither bossy nor easily pushed around. Decline caring, shared with others, engaged in playful teasing; they were often judged to be show-offs . Static less apt to tease others, but they were also less caring. Friendless timid, shy, preferred to play alone; couldn"t deal with teasing and easily angered; less caring, sharing and honest than peers. Girls" closest same-gender friendships are more fragile than those of boys. Girls" tendency to form close relationships in isolation from the larger group might jeopardize their relationships. Because of greater intimacy, greater likelihood of betrayal.
