PSYCH 3T03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Round Goby, Keystone Species, Endocrine Disruptor
Document Summary
Invasions and polluion: using animal behaviour to assess human impacts on the environment. Non-naive species (plants or animals) that are abundant enought to be annoying to humans, or be disrupive or harmful (severe negaive impacts) Nile perch and cane toad large invasive species. Certain behaviours that allow them to become successful. Generalist foragers uilize a lot of things to sustain them. Wide environmental tolerance thrive regardless of condiions. Short generaion ime and high reproducive capacity lots of ofspring in a short amount of ime to create a populaion boom. High interspeciic compeiion outcompete naive species to take over resources. Tendency to disperse more likely to take over new areas. Tolerant of conspeciics live socially and colonize environments. Brought in two naive and two invasive species. Put them into a maze to see how they explored. The two invasive species were more likely to be dispersing in the lume than the two naive species.
