In china there are 3 important figures in religion: 1. Laozi (lao tzu) and confucius: laozi and confucius are legendary figures who lived during the 6th century. But they understand this in different ways. Tao-te-ching (excerpt: revision is the action of tao. All things in the world come from being. And being comes from non-being: after things reach their prime, they begin to grow old, which means being contrary to tao. Whatever is contrary to tao will soon perish. Tao: the way , the one constant that underlies the eternal flux of the world, the way to the ultimate truth of existence. Virtue : the characteristics of something or someone as well as moral power or force. It comes close to the english word virtue in both it"s moral sense and as a description of something"s inherent quality. Wu wei: non-resistance (going with the flow, not doing, non-intervention.
