Over 6800 islands that make up japan.
Entire country about size of Germany.
127 mil pop. Ranked 10th largest in the world
Life expectancy is 83 in japan. Largest in the world still?
Over 23% of pop is over 65. They have a “greying” society. Prolly top 3-5 issues facing
japan right now.
Writing Systems:
4 ways to write Japanese
Kanji= Chinese characters cuz come from china. Also call them ictograms? Commonly
used for nouns and verbs. Chinese characters are often more complicated but jap ones are
often simpler.
Hiragana: its like an alphabet. 48 of them. You can technically write all of Japanese with
48 of those characters. When you study Japanese, you learn this first.
Katakana: like hiragana, its an alphabet. Used to write foreign long words. Much sharper
characters than hiragana.
Romaji: you can write Japanese entirely with English letters. Oshiri is the English way,
the first Asian thing is kanji then 2nd is hiragana. Oshiri means ass, or like bottom.
Most jap is a combo of kanji and hiragana and some katakana.
Unlucky number in japan is 4!! (random tidbit)
