Christians saw islam as succeeding, as though christianity is incomplete. Islam and christianity is universal, does not belong to a particular region: islam likes to convert people, the same as christianity, unlike judaism, because it does not seek to convert people. Muslims were conquering christian land: (islam entered spain in 711) Year 1492, muslims were kicked out of spain. Muslims were defeated and spain was to remain christian, before the spanish inquisition, it was. Christians, jews or muslims: many jews and muslims ended up leaving and some were converted. Muslims were able for the final time, but were able to defeat christians in turkey and this established the ottoman empire. Rifa"a al-tahtawi was an egyptian writer, teacher, translator, egyptologist and renaissance intellectual. Liberation of women, in europe, the women were liberated from men: progress. Did not blame islam, but blamed muslims, who were stuck in culture and superstitions. Muslims were worshiping their past" needed a reality check.
