Led to downfall of political regime in egypt. Tunisia (north africa) is politically stable and affluent by african standards. December 2010, mohamed bouazizi sold food at street stand to support himself. People from all walks of life protesting. Protesting reason: rejection of president mubarak, people worried about high unemployment, minimum wage very low, high food prices. Protestors were using social media bout what was happening and to organize protests. Social media used to expose police brutality. Instrumental in putting pressure on the government to respond to what the people were saying. Forcing many of worlds leader to respond to what was happening. Protesting against organizations like imf, world bank, wto. Ghandi advocating for non-violence, leader of resistance movement of british colonial rule in india. Society is made up of different groups with heterogeneous (different) interests. Different social groups that are continually negotiating for power.
