C. wright mills (1959) no test on stats/dates but trends. Sociological imagination: individual experiences connected to a social context. The ability to see the connections between personal and a broader context. Our social world gives us information to help apply the situation: e. g. unemployment, divorce. Unemployed: if everyone in the town has a job expect one person, it"s a personal problem. If a good number of people are not working (e. g. great depression), it"s not their own individual flaws stopping them. Divorce: reasons for it can be on a personal/individual level, or the changes in society that increase the rates of divorce. Technological change; social media, online dating it"s easier to find someone better : infidelity. The society in becoming increasingly more secular less religion = less marriage. No more power struggle in a relationship women no longer need to rely on men. Individualist thinking no more sacrificing for family. People live long stay married longer.
