Lecture 13: criminal justice system and marginalized groups. Less common for men to commit suicide after killing female partners. Between 1993 and 2002 murder suicides occured in one third of spousal homicides against women and only 3% of spousal homicides against men. When mill kill their female partners they are more likely to commit suicide than women who kill their partners. Men more likely to kill their children or kill wives in front of their children. Ideology of the privacy of the sanctity for the family lead to a poor cjs response to family violence introduction of mandatory arrest (police must arrest), mandatory prosecution and specialized domestic courts. Resulted in greater public awareness such as rights supports and shelters. Radical feminism that looked at intimate partner violence and pushed for services like crisis hotlines and shelters for women to go to.
