Institutional racism: how policies within institutions create inequalities for racialized groups. Race intersects with factors such as gender, age, sexual orientation and disability - healthcare should be sensitive to this. Institutional racism no longer espouses explicitly racist ideology, but nonetheless disadvantage racialized groups. Ie. the seasonal agricultural workers program when it was first introduced was based on explicitly racist ideology of the superiority of white and ideas about workers from mexico and the caribbean. Notions that they"re not well suited for our winters. Explicitly racist ideas that prevented them from staying in canada. Denial of equal opportunities for racialized groups. White privilege: the privileges that those with white skin experience - unearned privileges. Some whites can grapple with the issue of white privilege.
