Feminist theory (generally interested in examining how gender shapes the social world) Indigenous theory (understandings of the world generated by indigenous peoples and their understanding. Queer theory (interested in problematizing "taking for granted" assumptions about what is normal) Conceptualization - the way that a researcher defines a variable. Operational definition - the way that a researcher describes how a variable is measured. Dq: how might a sociologist conceptualize and subsequently operationalize poverty. Reliability - the consistency of a given measurement. Triangulation: using more than one method to fully understand a topic. Participatory action research (brings action & participatory research together) Ethical policies and practices emerged out of 2 key documents. Important principles: voluntary consent, benefits for society, avoidance unnecessary harm. The declaration of helsinki (1964) (world health organization) Important principle: interest of the individual needs to be held above that of society.
