People who are aware of their racialized privilege (white youth) may be uncomfortable talking about race because they feel as though they have little experience with racialized experiences. It is a prevalent topic in the media and is thus a topic of conversation. Any definable category of people who are socially disadvantaged. Two components of membership in a minority group. Not the size of the group, rather the lack of power. Majority uses dominance to control the social system. The point which is the most contested. Physical markers: skin colour, body structures and features. Focus on (so called) biological and genetic differences between groups of people. You could only belong to one group. Differences between two groups are inherent (can never change) Race" used to divide groups of people and establish a social hierarchy. Example 2: iq tests: the bell curve. Historical claim that differences in iq were tied to race. On the lower end, you"d see racialized groups.
