Activity: discuss the level of deviance of the following activities: Where we classify theses arbitrary behaviours on the scale has real consequences. Actions that violate social norms, and that may or may not be against the law. Howard becker: not the act itself, rather people"s reaction to the act that makes it deviant. We must think about society"s reaction more so than the act itself. Designates certain behaviours and actions that require social control and social intervention, codified in law (deviance that breaks a law) When we think about it, crime happens everyday, on a small scale (ie: Deviance is present in all societies, and though governments try to create consensus when it comes to what is deviant and criminal, it is subjective most times. Moral entrepreneurs:a person who influences or changes the creation or enforcement of a society"s moral codes. A lot of societies have difficulties dissociating church and state, therefore religious tendencies are apparent in law.
