*use concepts in paper: sf located within a positivist framework, seeks to explain why people deviate from the norm, deviance understood as a threat to the social order, causes social chaos, society breaks down. Is concerned with the following: social order and social control, and how it is maintained, how we control people so chaos doesn"t happen, e. g. monarchy, revolutions, conformity and why society does not devolve into chaos. Is an evolutionary approach - goal is a utopian society: assumes society is continuously improving, assumes: If there"s an issue within a family, it affects society. Including well-being of members: natural state of society is homeostasis or equilibrium, changes in one part of the system affects all other parts, conflict is unnatural. Is pathological, deviant, dysfunctional: yet also allows for social change. Is a state of normlessness or normative confusion. Is a general theory of social deviance: structure and organization of society can encourage too much deviance.
