Racial group: group that"s set apart from others b/c of visible physical characteristics. Can diminish the great differences btwn different groups. Very ambiguous; difficult to place people in different categories. The concept of race has no basis in science. Ethnic group: group that"s set apart from others b/c of national origin or distinct cultural patterns. Concerned w/ lack of economic and political power. Have less control over the power of their lives, available choices, less life choices compared to those of the dominant group. Dominant group has the power to decide society"s values. Members of a minority group share physical or cultural characteristics that keeps them distinct from the dominant group. However, there may be little difference btwn the two groups but there is continued oppression. Tend to marry w/in the group; strong sense of belonging and solidarity. Classified people outside of eu (asia, africa) as heathens, non-christians. Also talked about things such as agility, courage.
