SOCIOL 2JJ3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Toronto District School Board, Intersectionality, Masculinity
Document Summary
Dq: sociologists understand sexuality to exist along three dimensions. According to sociologists, what is the relationship between these three dimensions. Biggest claim: there does not need to be an alignment between these dimensions. Desires do not have to align with their behaviours. Forms of marginalization are co-constructed and cannot be understood or addresses by looking at one element/dimension by itself. Prior to this time, folks just wanted to focus on gender i. e. toronto district school board expulsion and drop out rates. Not just a race problem (50% of expulsion occurs to black people, but its not just a race issue, could be class as well) A way of explaining and predicting what is happening in the everyday world. A way of acting, something that we do. How we see the world, how we engage in the world (almost like glasses that we wear)
