Necessary for society to function properly and not stagnate. Ensures system of incentives stratification based on ability. As class system evolves, leads to differentiated society. # of perspectives on function of mass communication: 4 functions of media approach. Entertainment environment: uses and gratification approach. Examines media functions from perspective of the user of media content.
