Three inter-related components/parts: social construction of gender categories based on biological sex, sexual division of labour whereby specific tasks are allocated on the basis of sex, social regulation of sexuality. Alfred kinsey 1894 1956: american biologist, professor of entomology/zoology, founded the institute for sex research at the university of indiana state in 1947, kinsey scale, 0-6, 0 being heterosexual, 6 being homosexual, measured sexual orientation. Lee ellis 1942: survey of over 8000 college students at 20 american schools and two canadian. Universities: employed four measures of sexual orientation, a self-identity measure. How would you describe your sexual orientation? : an attraction measure. To what degree are you sexually attracted to members of the opposite sex/same sex? : a fantasy measure, an experiential measure. When imagining sexual interaction with another person, what percentage of time does this involve a member of the same sex/opposite sex? .
