While most sociologists had turned away from sf by the 70"s it made a brief comeback in the 1980"s. The idea was to try and build upon sf and improve it/overcome its deficiencies. Developed by jeffrey alexander eventually turned away from it. In the 1990s he said neo-functionalism was no longer satisfactory. Father was a minister as well as a professor at colorado college. University education graduated from amherst college (1924) with bachelor"s degree. Went to grad school at the london school of economics. Didn"t stay there long, decided to go elsewhere in. Europe (he was fluent in german) so he went to the university of. Heidelberg where he started his ph. d. in 1925. (weber had been a student and professor there back in the day, but weber had died in 1920). But weber"s widow marianne had intellectual meetings at her house which talcott attended. Marriage/family married helen walker in 1927 and had 3 children.
