Functional importance some occupations are more functional for society. Differential scarcity not many people able to fulfill these positions. Functional occupations should be granted a higher salary. Occupational hierarchy is based on how bright you are and your work ethic. Consensus on the perceived justice of unequal rewards and criticisms of davis and moore"s theory. Davis and moore say that members of society generally agree that the hierarchy in which some occupations receive more awards than others is actually fair and just. Us and canada there are some popular beliefs about merit/meritocracy, individual achievement, and equal opportunity. It"s up to you to take that opportunity. These beliefs suggest the consensus that david and moore are talking about. This theory only tries to justify existing social inequality. Inequality experienced by women and minorities especially the work place. The theory suggests that effort and ability are what determines one"s place in the stratification system.
