They sell their personal skills on the labour market. E. g. scientists, technicians, civil servants, managers, professors, white-collar workers. The middle classes are the petty bourgeoisie and the intelligentsia/specialists. Weber argued that different things were going happen to those 2 classes as society developed. The petty bourgeoisie would decline as capitalism developed, and the intelligentsia would increase since it would become harder to stay self-employed and because. 2 of the existence/growth of bureaucratic organizations within capitalist societies.
