Document Summary
Had a relatively privileged life growing up. His father was a lawyer, mistreated his wife. His mother was very religious, and was calvinist. His aunts on his mothers side were also quite religious. Weber himself was never religious, however he developed an interest in religion (like durkheim) He was influenced in part by his uncle, who had been a professor and had very liberal views. As a result weber seemed to pick up a lot of liberal political orientation. Believed that we should have a liberal political system in our capitalist economy (accepted the capitalist system: university education. Weber spent his first year like marx, having fun, getting drunk. His parents did not appreciate his behaviour, so they wanted him closer to home so they could keep an eye on him. Transferred to the university of berlin and continued his studies there. Completed law school, and got work as a junior barrister.
